Members of Justice and Diversity in Action (JDA) strive to create and sustain an environment that supports each other’s work for social change and commitment to grow in knowledge of human diversity in all its aspects. Together, we seek to be open, honest, and sensitive in examining attitudes, prejudices, and actions that undermine respect for diversity and perpetuate injustice, as these arise both within and beyond the Georgetown Community.
We advocate for justice, as individuals and as a group. Our members come from all schools in the University and include First-Years to Seniors; often there is good mix of international students as well as those who hail from the United States. Each year, as a community, we select an area of interest and focus or service with a particular interest on the local, national and international levels. It is the programs hope to grant residents the opportunity to learn more about prevalent social justice issues through both dialogue and engagement within the community; calling residents to be both open-minded and creative.
The Justice and Diversity Action [JDA] community includes all class years. So if you are an incoming First-Year student, a Transfer Student, or an International Exchange student, who is passionate about an issue of social justice or building respect for diversity in all its forms—or if you want to live with and learn from students who are—JDA members hope you will apply. The JDA Community is most eager to welcome you and help you feel at home from day one, on the fourth floor of McCarthy Hall. JDA is open to all class years.
To support each one member’s commitment to work for social justice and respect forauthentic diversity, while forming a real community among all the members.
Justice and Diversity in Action will be a dynamic Living Learning Community (LLC) known for putting its social justice commitments into action, and embodying the Catholic and Jesuit idea of helping “to form women and men for others."
